While writing your story, as well as during the planning stages, it's crucial that you have a way to store your ideas so that you don't forget them. Make yourself a file - a computer file and/or a physical file in a folder or binder, in which you'll keep all of your ideas and outlines. Store the file in a place that you can find at a moment's notice. You never know when inspiration will strike, and this way, you'll easily be able to jot down your thoughts and bring them out when you need them.
Among the items in your file can be a notebook that you carry around with you for notes and sketches. Another idea would be to maintain a list of character names, places, and facts. You don't want to have writer's block when it comes to recalling your story's essential information! Finally, include printouts of websites and magazine articles on writing in your file. You can learn a lot by reading about your craft, and it helps to keep the ones that are the most helpful and reread them.
Stay organized throughout the writing process, and I guarantee you that you will get more accomplished each day.
Happy writing! :)
